Menard County Housing Authority (MCHA) has been serving Menard County, Illinois since 1947 by providing safe, decent and sanitary housing for its low income residents. MCHA currently manages 177 units of Public Housing located throughout the county, 20 units of rental housing for Prairie Place located in the communities of Petersburg and Athens, and 68 units of rental housing for County Estates located in the communities of Petersburg, Athens and Greenview. All of the Menard County Housing Authority rental units are restricted for low or very-low income residents and many are handicapped-accessible.

Community Action Partnership of Central Illinois is a private, non-profit agency that has been serving Menard County, Illinois since 1965. The agency serves the low-income and senior community through a variety of programs including: Early Head Start, Head Start, Utility Assistance, Foster Grandparent Program, Community Services including a food pantry and more.
